February 20th, 2008
Photoshoot with Jazz Orient went pretty well. Was great to see Gerry the Sax and Michael the Drums - I haven't seen either of them in years. I got some solo ones done - face, with guitar and with the big theremin.
BUT - for the 2nd time in a week (the other being the ceilidh at the weekend) I go to an old English house, it;s below freezing outside and...NO HEATING. The ceilidh was inexpicable as it was a seriously posh ouse and monies people - who invites 100 people to their house and switches the heating off. The photographer was a nice guy and I could see why he didn't heat his house if he was in his barn studio all day - and things did warm a little with 6 of us and lights but it was a chilly welcome at both places. Ah well there is a war on.
Actually I;m now really tired - 3 hours of driving and 4 hours of photos in many combinations and instruments in a cold barn. Be nice to have some new snaps tho.
On way home picked up a McDevitt book (Omega) and 2001 on DVD cheap at Borders.
Bad news - the venue that hosts my monthly electronic electroic nights cancelled not only tonights gig but decided they didnt want to carry on with them - not really surprised as we bring so few people in. In a way I'm ready for a change - we had a good run - about a year. I;ve been thinking I;d like to work on an electronic album at home - live was great for picking up some chops and stuff but it'd be nice to use some of the stufff that can't travel, plus use some live captured sounds and stuff. Thinking of starting another little label for it.
In evening I chilled out watching the 4th Thin Man movie DVD - Shadow of the Thin Man - a good one - just the ticket. Whenever I see William Powell sip suavely at a cocktail it makes me want one. See people's behaviour is affected by what they watch. I haven;t caught any murderers yet tho.

Quite a full on day in the studio.
1. after receiving vocal files from Jodi the Voice I edited and mixed and mastered these, mp3'd them and sent 3 mixes back to her to send to the director of the documentary film it will hopefully be in. The song was the 1938 classic I'll Be Seeing You and Jodi sang it superbly.
2. I redid the vocals on a short track of mine - Leaves - in my heart of hears I wasn't happy with the original performance - tricky coz there's free tempo. Tried to add some more guitar but it didn't work.
3. recorded my new song I wrote kind of about my mom - recorded keyboards, guitar and stacks of harmonies - at one stage there are 9. Needs fresh ears tomorrow to finalize it and I fancy adding some shmmer from my electric 9 string guitar and effects. Then remix this , and Leaves and the album's finished (again)
2 gigs came in for Govannen.
Finished my book - To Hold Infinity by John Meaney - not great art but defiitely a hard-to-put-down pageturner.
Next book up is another Jack McDevitt - Omega - carrying on from the last one I read. He has his flaws but he makes for a nice trip.
Also I got the new album my electro-shoegazer Manual - it turned out to be a double CD unexpectedly. Nice shimmery shoegazing electronica.
