Yay! No beaurocrasy today and I got down to some recording - or re-recording as I heard what I;d laid down on a track on a new age album I started and didn't like many of the sounds - the basic midi plan was OK tho. So I redid 3 synth parts and even progressed on the Virus whereby I edited the LFO mod matrix and it did what i wanted :-). Even added some kalimba at the end of the arvo. 1st track coming together. A 15minute track too.
I'm finding the Absynth to be not as useful so far with ambient mellow wafty pads as I'd hoped - still lots to investigate and I did do some envelope editing for the 1st time, but the sounds generally are a bit spicey, and like Atmosphere a little goes a long way - still relying on my old Triton and Virus pads, plus my trusty SH32 for wheebling. Slowly slowly learning - I am much worse these days at soaking up info from manuals.
In the eve G suggested a classical concert near her work at Warwick Arts so we met for dinner and took int he 1st half which was a late Penderecki work (Symphony 2 - Christmas - from 1980) - I knew some of his 60s stuff but he mellowed later on so this was quite retro for him - some nice passages and textures tho as you'd expect from him. G had to get up for 6am so we skipped the Dvorak and Tchaikovsky. Nice to hear an orchestra, especially one playing 20thC music.
Picked up some nice cheap DVDs (Man in White Suit (Ealing), Ivans Childhood(Trakovsky), Mr Verdeau (Chaplin) ) and in the shop there and a cheap Jobim CTI CD Stone Flower - gosh there was hardly anything there over a fiver.
Ceildh tomorrow...
Keep trying to steel myself to buy a laptop but keep chickening out - set myself deadline of Easter. Naroowed it down to a few - most likely an Acer Travelate 6492
